Reliance’s retail construction experience ranges from individual stores, strip centers, power centers, big box stores and regional shopping malls, to individual high end boutiques. Our dossier in the retail sector features some fifty shopping centers, over 100 big box stores, and a client base that includes some of the most aggressive retail chains on the continent. Forced by the nature of their business to be especially intolerant of construction delays, retailers are drawn to Reliance by the Company’s consistently successful performance in projects with tough deadlines. Customer satisfaction is evident in the volume of repeat business: Wal-Mart, Sears, Costco, Zellers, Rona and Toys ‘R' Us alone account for almost sixty stores completed in the last ten years.

Our relationship with Mobilia and their real estate arm began in 1991 with the construction of their second retail development project. We have since built, and later expanded all of the shopping centers developed by CPD which total 5 retail centers comprising roughly 750,000 sf. Located in the Montreal region (Laval, Brossard, Anjou, Pointe-Claire and St-Hubert) these projects were all completed on a Project Management basis with Reliance acting as site selection consultant and project design cost consultants in addition to construction managers.
Montreal Forum / Pepsi Forum 2000  |  560,000 sf

The Forum, former home to the world famous Montreal Canadiens hockey team, had been empty for years. Rather than demolish the vacant building, Canderel and its partners, the Simon Property Group, DLJ Real Estate and Madison Marquette undertook the challenge of redevelopment, uniting the building's history and future to create a one-of-a-kind, modern entertainment venue, including movie theaters, restaurants and retail space at a cost of approximately 100 million dollars. The existing roof was raised 18'-0" to increase retail space and accommodate a 65'-0" IMAX screen, 3 levels of underground parking, 22 AMC movie theaters, a 3-storey restaurant/bar and smaller retail tenant spaces. The Forum remains one of Montreal's most recognizable landmarks.

Demolition, enlargement and renovation of popular underground shopping mall on Ste-Catherine Street in downtown Montreal, including conversion of sub-basement foodcourt to public parking garage, construction of new food court on retail level, closing of atrium spaces, creation of new retail areas;all performed without interruption of normal business operations.
Eaton's - Rideau Center 2000  |  250,000 sf

Transformation of old 250,000 s.f. Eaton's premises to upgraded Eaton Retail Store for Sears Canada including all new fixtures, concessions and interior fit-up. Job was contracted on a fast-track basis and completed in 3 months. The total cost of renovation was $12,500,000.
Rio-Can Center 2002  |  230,000 sf

Construction of a new 230,000 sf multi-retail shopping facility spread over 5 pavilions including full site construction. Full site services were extended to three restaurant pavillions, and tenant fit-up of Winners and Business Depot were completed.
Ogilvy - Holt Renfrew Under construction  |  217,000 sf

The complete renovation and transformation of the existing 217,000 square foot Ogilvy Store as well as an expansion of 40,000 sf of retail space in the new Quadrilatère de la Montagne building started in the fall of 2017. A unique feature of this project is the articulated storefront and canopy at the new public entrance, on Ave. de la Montagne. This project, once completed, will become the flagship store for the Holt Renfrew banner.

Galeries de la Capitale’s owners decided to completely demolish the original amusement park inside the mall and hire world class design firms to create a brand new amusement park experience like no other in retail. Inspired by the Steampunk Universe, the new amusement includes 18 rides and attractions, the longest skating path in the country, a stage with a complete sound system, a giant screen, an interactive water fountain displaying sound and light choreography, and the very first hubless ferris wheel in North America and a zip line attraction that takes guest right through the ferris wheel!

Reliance has completed sixteen Rona home renovation stores, with full service parking areas, provisions for heavily loaded floors and enclosed lumber yards. Stores average 130,000 sf. In 2007 Reliance beat the Rona record for having completed a 100,000 sf store in a record of 84 days.

Galeries de la Capitale is revamping its attraction park! Inspired by the steampunk universe, the new Méga Parc includes 18 rides and attractions, the longest skating path in the country, a stage with a complete sound system, a giant screen, an interactive water fountain displaying sound and light choreography and the very first hubless wheel in North America! The construction started in September 2017.





4220 Innes - Buildings F&J 2006  |  2 buildings, totaling 136,360 sf

This project consisted of two retail anchor buildings, totaling 136,360 square feet, within a regional “Big Box” retail shopping Center in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. Building ‘J’ is a multi-tenant 20,000 square foot retail building that was constructed for tenants such as Second Cup and Pier 1 Imports. Building ‘F’ was designed as a big box, multi-tenant retail comprising 116,360 square feet of gross construction, custom tailored to the individual specifications of the four more prominent retailers – Winners / Home Sense, Linen ‘N’ Things, Michael’s and the LCBO.
